CricketLAB Update - July 2023
It has been a big start to the off-season at CricketLAB, with plenty happening in the early off-season. April saw Head Coach Josh Miller travel to India with a Coaches’ Association (HKHDCCA) and Northern District CC Under 15 tour team. The team had several CricketLAB members in it, namely Liam Bradey, Will Byrom, Jared Fernandes, Alex Fitzgerald, and Zach Rapa. The tour was a fantastic experience for all involved, and a great way to boost motivation for those boys heading into season 2023/24.
Corey Miller is once again overseas, playing as an overseas pro in England for Bradford and Bingley. Corey is having another successful season and his team are still in the running in a couple of competitions. We look forward to having Corey back coaching in the second half of next term.
With Corey away, we have been able to bring on a couple of new coaches which is always exciting. Ryan Swain is a first grade wicket-keeper batsman, and will be taking both private sessions and assisting in our group programs. Ryan is an outstanding coach, working with the Northern District junior squads, as well as at Barker College as a specialist skills coach. We have also had Lachlan Bailey assisting at our group programs throughout Term 2. Lachlan is a player at Northern District, and will continue to gain coaching experience working alongside our top coaches over the coming season.
May saw the start of our academy style group sessions for term 2. This program was extremely successful, with players working with our leading coaches on technical fundamentals across all disciplines, understanding of the game as well as their mindset.
Our extremely popular private sessions continued throughout the term, with use of the Mark Taylor Oval Indoor Centre seeing a huge improvement to both the consistency and quality of our sessions over the winter period. It has been fantastic to not look at the weather radar, and to have access to high quality training equipment, making the centre an outstanding environment to improve your cricket.
Representative Selections
In exciting news, Cameron Tunks and Charlie Anderson were selected to attend the Australian Under 19 training camp. This camp is prior to a squad being selected to tour England in August and September. Sadly, Charlie has been ruled out due to an injury (we hope he is back on deck shortly), so we wish Cam all the best for the camp in July.
We have also had several players selected in NSW Academy squads for the off-season, these players are Cam and Charlie (Under 19); Tom Bermingham, John James and Riley McDowell (Under 17); Will Byrom (Under 16); and Josh McDowell (Under 15).
Congratulations also to all our players that have been selected in AW Green Shield and NSW Youth Championship squads for the season ahead, our players will have plenty of cricket on their plate as the season approaches!
The Months Ahead
It is hard to imagine, but by the end of next school term the cricket season will be underway.
Our group programs will restart in mid-July to align with the school calendar. There are still spaces available in both age categories, and we look forward to these players working closely with Head Coach Josh Miller and our other outstanding coaches. Our private sessions are available year round, and you can book sessions at the following link – Private Session Bookings
We look forward to partnering with Kissing Point Cricket Club, as we assist them in running pre-season skills programs for their junior boys and girls. We also look forward to assisting their volunteer coaches, as we run some age specific coach education sessions.
While there is much to look forward to, we also face the challenge of losing two of our leading coaches to overseas holidays. We hope Nick and Tom have an amazing time overseas, as our other coaches look to share the load over the time they are away. We are extremely lucky to have David Lowery come on board to take on some of this load. Dave is the current First Grade captain at Northern District, and an exceptional Level 2 accredited coach, and we look forward to having him take on a number of players while Nick and Tom are away.
